U.P. naming Mahal

Posted by Don on 09 Apr 2007 | Tagged as: Buhay OU

U.P. naming mahal
Pamantasang hirang
Ang tinig namin
Sana’y iyong dinggin
Malayong lupain
Amin mang marating
Di rin magbabago ang damdamin
Di rin magbabago ang damdamin

Luntian at pula
Sagisag magpakailanman
Ating ipagdiwang
Bulwagan ng dangal
Humayo’t itanghal
Giting at tapang
Mabuhay ang pag-asa ng bayan
Mabuhay ang pag-asa ng bayan.

A Development Communication Journey

What to Me is Development Communication
By Felix Librero, PhD/Professor and UP Scientist I/ U.P. Open University

Introduction
I’d like to share my own take on development communication, if I may, not in a manner usually prescribed by experts and academics but as I have experienced it.  I’m woefully aware that this is not the best way to explain development communication, and it’s entirely possible that my own experiences might actually be a wrong operationalization of development communication.   However, this is how I have practiced it in four decades of my professional life.  Continue Reading »

Devcom’s Gerard Ravasco and his take on distance learning

Posted by Gigi Ravasco on 06 Apr 2007 | Tagged as: Buhay OU

(Presented at the Third National Open and Distance Learning Conference held at the Traders Hotel in Manila February 2007)

During the past decades open and distance education has always been considered and described as (permit me to use the words of Cherie Gil in the 1985 movie Bituing Walang Ningning) “nothing but a second rate, trying hard, copycat” in comparison to the traditional brick and mortar schools.  But with the onslaught of new technologies at its disposal, open and distance learning has come of age and could now compete with the quality of traditional classroom education… Cool   Continue Reading »

Are we at the mercy of multinational pharma companies ? Here are differing opinions from www.upou.kapehan.net :

I’ve read in the newspapers recently about how Pfizer is trying to delay (legally) the introduction of cheap, imported drugs in the market. How do you guys feel about the fact that prices of drugs in the Philippines are 50-90% higher than those in India? Sad For example, there used to be only 1 anti-hypertensive drug of its kind available, Norvasc from Pfizer. It costs 44.50 per 5mg. Then, Therapharma recently introduced a similar drug, Amvasc, for only 17.50! And now, in reaction to this new drug, Pfizer is now offering a 50% reduction (discount daw). Eh pwede naman palang cheap eh!!! Continue Reading »

Time management in OU

How do UPOU students cope with their FMAs, TMAs, papers, work, family and other things that matter? Here’s some excerpts from this interesting thread at www.upou.kapehan.net.

A post from MIS major Jerrold Donato inquired about time management in OU:

Guys, how do you do this? Can you give me some tips, lalo na sa mga laging over time sa work, then stil need time for family, then time for the module and projects sa OU? Tapos at the end of the sem with good grades pa?   2funny 2funny

Now serving Kape at Dyaryo

Posted by Don on 03 Apr 2007 | Tagged as: Editor's Notes

Hi to all students and alumni of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU). We welcome you to this site dedicated to the creation of our first ever UPOU student e-publication, KAPE at DYARYO ng OU: A UP Open University Student Publication. It is a take-off from our rich and lively exchange of ideas and experiences in the UPOU Kapehan (www.upou.kapehan.net) and a response to the challenge of giving more voice to the students in view of the recent crisis that beset the UP Collegian.

With KAPE at DYARYO ng OU, we hope to further the convergence of our minds, hearts, and convictions to further our learning and our relevant contribution to student life in the UP Open University.
